The Inverell-Tingha NAIDOC Committee have once again opened their 'Design a T-Shirt Competition' for 2020 and want to see designs submitted by all ages.
Organiser James Sheather said the winning designer will be rewarded with $500 cash and their very own NAIDOC shirt with their work featured on it.
Submit a design that tells the story of 'Always was, always will be' by sending a photo of yourself and your artwork to itnaidoc@gmail.com
Don't forget to include your name, contact details and a brief story explaining the meaning behind your design. The committee do not need original artworks unless you are the selected winner.
Each year the Inverell-Tingha NAIDOC Committee create individual NAIDOC shirts for people in the district which feature a pattern of art designed by a local.
"This year we thought with the important theme of 'Always Was, Always Will Be' to encourage local artists to submit art with their take on the theme. We wanted a quality piece too which is why we've offered the prize money," Sheather said.
Once the competition closes on October 2, a winner will be chosen and the design will be place on the shirts.
Expressions of interest will then go out for people to purchase and wear the local shirts for this year's NAIDOC Week.
Each year the shirts are unique, and because they aren't reproduced, they become a rare piece for those who order them.
For those talented artists interested in entering, the only criteria is you must be local to the district and draw inspiration from the 2020 theme.
"All age groups, kids, adults and even share pieces like school groups are encouraged. We just want something unique for us," he said.
For more information about the competition call James on 0409 823 710 or email jsheather@armajun.org.au.
With COVID-19 forcing NAIDOC Week to move from July to November, the local committee have been re-organising local events.
"This is a time for all of us to come together. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, it's about being inclusive for everyone and about sharing our culture with the wider community. We want to make everyone feel apart of the week," he said.
