Liverpool Plains artist Dr Rowen Matthews, whose last exhibition 'Land is Emotional' featured at Tamworth Regional Gallery, will visit Inverell in October to judge to popular, annual prize.
Rowen previously judged the Inverell Art Prize in 2017, and gallery manager Jane Peterkin looks forward to welcoming the talented artist back to the northern tablelands.
Jane also encouraged local artists to enter work across the ten sections, highlighting the total prize money as a nice incentive for creatives around the district.
"The Inverell Shire Council annual art acquisition of up to $3,500 will return; all entries are eligible for that and this will be the first year Inverell Art Society will offer an acquisition of up to $1,500. The total prize money has risen significantly this year- $6,700 in total," she said.
Paper entries need to be in by September 11 and artwork needs to be submitted to the gallery by September 25. The official opening night will be held on October 10 with limited tickets available.
The evening has been planned with COVID-19 restrictions in mind and limited tickets will be available.
"We're playing it by ear at the moment, but so far the opening night will go ahead. It will start at 6.30pm and it should be a great night at the gallery," she said.
Although entries are down, Jane hoped artist may be getting back in touch with their creative side during a time where social distancing and stay at home is more prevalent.
"We're definitely hoping people have been at home and with their time, they've been painting and getting back into their art."
Each year, a special feature theme is selected by the Art Society Committee, who draw inspiration from things happening in the intimidate surroundings. This year's theme is no different.
