Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall last week met with user groups to mark the official completion of the state government-funded project.

Mr Marshall said the new amenities would ensure the facility could comfortably host multi-day carnivals and overnight events.

"Upgrades to the Gravesend Recreation Reserve over a number of years have resulted in the small community having one of the most accessible multiuse sports facilities in the district," he said.

"Following the announcement of this Stronger Country Communities grant last year Neil Daley and his committee, with the support of Gwydir Shire Council, got cracking with this project delivering a men's and women's amenities block, equipped with showers and toilets.

"The facility, located behind the all-weather shed, has been fitted with hot water and is connected to two large rain water tanks, with capacity to store more than 60,000 litres.

"I want congratulate local building contractor Meader Construction from Warialda for delivering such a professional job."

Mr Marshall said as a result of the work taking place at the ground, a number of different sporting groups, including Gravesend Pony Club, have expressed their interest in potentially holding events at the Recreation Reserve in the future.

"Not only does increased use of the rec ground mean more revenue for the committee to invest back into amenities and maintenance but it means more people visiting and spending money in Gravo businesses, which is great news for everyone," he said.

The funds were also spent installing a new fence around the tennis courts.

"The old chicken wire perimeter fence has been fully replaced by a chain link fence with steel posts," Mr Marshall said.

"This project has occurred at a perfect time with council intending to replace the old, overgrown tennis court with a multipurpose sports surface that has line markings for tennis, basketball and netball.

"A multi-purpose court would be a great addition to fitness facilities in the community, and as it's located next door to Gravesend Public School I'm sure it would be well utilised by students."
