Inverell Shire Council will start planning for three additional bike and walking paths in Inverell, thanks to a $102,000 investment by the state government.

A shared path will be constructed along the northern side of Gwydir Highway, from the corner of Brae Street down to Lions Park, Old Bundarra Road.
Meanwhile a second shared path will run beside the Macintyre River from Gwydir Highway to May Street Lookout, providing a safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists.

The third project is a shared cycleway from the corner of Lawrence and Henderson streets to the corner of Granville and Vivian streets. The project adjoins parkland and an aged care facility.
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said the government had allocated $615,000 to local councils across the region for new walking and cycling projects to better connect communities, improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and encourage more people to get active.
"I am delighted Inverell will benefit from this funding injection, with three projects earmarked to improve and extend the existing network of walking and cycling paths through the community," Mr Marshall said.

"I congratulate Inverell Shire Council on being so proactive in addressing gaps in its existing footpath and cycleway networks and valuing the importance of this infrastructure for the health and wellbeing of the local community."
Mr Marshall said with cycling more popular than ever before and walking trips on the rise, it was important the government provided funding to local councils to develop the infrastructure needed to support local communities.
"These three projects will provide a huge boost for residents and businesses - completing crucial missing links in the Inverell walking and cycling network and providing better connections between residential areas and the CBD," he said.
"If we want to encourage more people to leave the car at home and get active, we need to provide access to safe, convenient and connected waking and cycling networks.
"This investment is about connecting people and places and making a difference to the way residents move around their communities."
