Humid air persists over NSW and is interacting with a surface trough over the interior to produce showers and storms over the northwest, with some locally heavy falls.
Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding is possible on Thursday morning, with the focus initially in the western part of the warning area, then shifting eastwards.
Locations which may be affected include Inverell, Moree, Barraba, Ashford, Bellata and Bingara.
In these areas, widespread falls of 20mm to 40mm are likely, mostly falling before midday, with local totals possible exceeding 100mm beyond those experienced earlier this morning.
Inverell has received more than 55mm of rain since Wednesday night, while Moree has received less than 5mm.
Bellata received heavy rainfall, which caused flooding along the Newell Highway, 5km north of town.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Not drive, ride or walk through flood water.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
- Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
- After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
- Stay vigilant and monitor conditions.
- Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
