Inverell Shire Council Mayor, Paul Harmon says the program has been a great success and is fully booked.

"It is a terrific time of year to get out on the water, especially with the recent improvements at Lake Inverell and I'm delighted Council can offer these free kayak tours to our region's youth," he said.

"The initiative is funded by the NSW Government and assists local councils offer free recreational activities for young people over the summer school holidays.

"We are lucky to be able to have the lake at our doorstep and it's been great to see the newly constructed kayak-ramp receive a hefty workout over the summer break."

The mayor says the summer school holiday programs also provide families with some respite from a tumultuous year.

"With most members of our community being impacted physically or mentally in some way this past year, whether it be from the bushfires, border closures or drought, this is a fun, outdoor activity for our young people to enjoy," he said.
