The Bureau of Meteorology described Friday's rainfall as "potentially life-threatening" with more than 100mm recorded in an hour, causing several rivers to rapidly rise.
And there's no immediate relief for locals as a low forms in the north, with the bureau predicting a torrential downpour on Saturday.
The bureau warned Sydneysiders to reconsider their Saturday plans as up to 100mm of rainfall is expected, creating very dangerous conditions.
The State Emergency Service has warned Illawarra and South Coast residents to be prepared for flooding and limit travel.
A hazardous surf warning, marine wind warning and flood watch have been issued for the region for Saturday.
Another rainfall event is expected to move through inland NSW from Monday, but it will be milder than conditions over the weekend.
Sounds like it'll be a good weekend to binge-watch a new series or treat yourself to an old favourite.

A Tasmanian council is offloading surplus land for an absolute bargain price.
The most expensive block being sold off is an acre, or more than 4000sqm, of residential land that overlooks the iconic Macquarie Harbour.
It could be yours for $140,000.
Whatever you're getting up to this weekend, stay safe and have fun.
