Damaging winds and heavy rainfall are expected for the entire region, with the prediction issued at midday on Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM)'s warning encompasses Inverell, Moree, Armidale, Grafton, Glen Innes, Tamworth, Tenterfield and Goondiwindi.

The BoM's flood watch remains for a number of local catchments, already soaked wet after weeks of rain.

Locations which could be affected include the Peel River, the Gwydir River and the Upper Macintyre River.

There is currently a flood watch for moderate to major flooding for both the Gwydir and Upper Macintyre rivers.

Western Zone Commander for the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), David Monk, warned the flooding could be minor to moderate and could start imminently.

"This weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed from Sunday and into the week," Mr Monk said.

"This flood watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop."

Official flood warnings will be issued if river levels are expected to rise to above the minor flood level, and the BoM will provide updates as the situation evolves.

Mr Monk said people who may be affected by the impending weather should take the time now to prepare their property for flooding.

"This includes moving stock to higher ground, moving pumps for creeks and rivers and having adequate resources on hand including food and water, should your property become isolated for a period of time," he said.
