It is the first death recorded as a result of the intense and persistent flooding and heavy rainfall to lash NSW this week.

The news comes as rain eased across most of the state and the sun shone in some areas.

But the danger of rising rivers and floodwater is still very real.

Flooding is likely to continue at the Hawkesbury River at North Richmond for the rest of the week, with residents in low-lying areas evacuated on Wednesday.

Queenslanders are praising the downpour after a number of important catchments received significant rainfall.

A number of minor, moderate and major flood warnings have been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of Queensland.

More than 200 millimetres of rain has fallen in parts of Gippsland in Victoria's southeast, causing flash flooding in Mallacoota, Yarram and Won Wron.

The bureau has issued a minor flood warning for the Snowy River; a final flood warning for the Cann and Genoa Rivers; and a flood watch for parts of Gippsland and Otway Coast.

Tasmania is also being hit with heavy rainfall, with the bureau warning there may be flash flooding in the state's east and southeast.

A flood watch was issued for catchments in the eastern half of Tasmania and minor flooding is likely to occur in the northeast.
