The blaze broke out about 8am when authorities were alerted to flames leaping from the house.
Fire crews including Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers rushed to the scene, along with ambulance paramedics and local police.
"The deceased person was located inside the premises," New England Detective Inspector Roger Best said.
"The investigation is in its infancy, and the circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated.
"What I can say that is investigations are being hampered by structural damage at the scene, and at this point it's unsafe for investigators to get access to the site."
Investigations are continuing but a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
More to come.
