More than fifty guns, including a WWII pistol and military-style rifle with a bayonet, have been handed to police during a firearm amnesty in northern Tasmania.

Police have launched a crackdown on illegal guns in the region after a spate of shooting incidents in recent months.
People were able to hand in weapons without fear of prosecution at several locations on the weekend as part of the amnesty process.
About 40 kilograms of ammunition and a cut-down .22 rifle were also handed in, while police will collect another ten guns this week.
"Any illicit firearm is a concern to Tasmania Police. Firearms in the wrong hands are dangerous and are of utmost concern to police," Inspector Scott Flude said.
"We know that there are people out there in the community who know people in possession of illegal firearms.
"Please come forward, provide information so we can take these illegal firearms off the street permanently."
Tasmania has a permanent gun amnesty, whereby people can surrender their guns without risk of prosecution, which was introduced after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.
