When asked what he would like to say to people who are "too busy" to volunteer, he said one simple thing.
"Make time," he said without blinking.

"It really disappoints me to see that our young people aren't taking part in organisations around town.
"It's important to volunteer - to help people, to grow the town."
And he should know, volunteering all the while being involved in the family business as a senior partner, in Olives of Beaulieu producing olive oil, olive products and spices, with cellar door sales, and now working at Arlingtons Inverell.

He reckons Inverell is the "best town in Australia", and is proud of continuing his legacy in shaping the city.
The former councillor, tourism advocate, businessman, volunteer and chair of many committees was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for service to the community of Inverell, and to local government.
He's just been to Sydney to pick them up.
Beginning his service to Inverell more than 40 years ago on the board of Inverell's Pioneer Park, his volunteering spirit was kindled in 1965 in Sydney at the Hornsby Heights fires and hasn't dimmed in the slightest.
