Councillor Di Baker has been helping coordinate election information sessions around the region, as part of the Australian Local Government Women's Association, and said the interest was strong in Uralla, Glen Innes and Armidale - but also in Inverell.
"On average, we had 10 to 20 people in each session," she explained.

"Inverell's interest, there was both men and women, and were around the same demographic... mostly, I would have said 50ish and up."
Cr Baker is the longest serving councillor in the current line-up of Inverell Shire councilors - having served continuously since 1999. She is also the first - and so far only - current councillor appearing on the register for the elections in August.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were three people listed on the NSW Public Registers and Lists: Di Baker, Rayne Nathanial Single and Joanne Narelle Williams.
Changes and new enrolments must be received by 6pm Monday July 26, with nominations open from then. Cr Baker said the electoral office will soon to be set up in town, with a location yet to be announced.
"It's great for everyone to get involved. Even if they don't get elected, the experience is really great, and it's a big learning curve for a lot of people.
"They can go online and register now with the Electoral Commission, with nominations opening after the 26th of July."
Aside from giving back to the community, Cr Baker said the work was "extremely interesting".
"Sometimes you have a win with getting your point of view across, but it's never boring, always interesting, and it's always done with the best of intent, to get the best outcomes for Inverell Shire residents," she explained.
Prepoll Voting opens August 23 and closes September 3, with Election Day on September 4.
