A motion to ban non-vaccinated councilors and staff from attending council meetings in person will be put forward at October's Ordinary Council Meeting.

Councillor Mal Peters has submitted a notice of motion, asking for both councilors and staff who have not had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine attend the meeting via video link instead.
"Inverell has been very fortunate to have not had any Covid cases," Cr Peters said.

"That is unlikely to continue as the economy opens up and people start travelling more extensively. Until Inverell gets up into the 80 per cent double vaccinated rate it remains vulnerable."
He based his submission on medical evidence, which he said demonstrated that double vaccinated people are less likely to spread the disease.
"I am told many organisations are now mandating double vaccination as a prerequisite to attend meetings including the golf clubhouse and CWA."
In providing commentary on the submission for councillors to cast their vote on Wednesday, General Manager Paul Henry said that council did not fall in the category that could deny non-vaccinated people entry.
"Council's Administration Centre and Council Chambers are not in the class of premises that is required to deny entry to unvaccinated adults," he explained.
Back in April, council resolved that all meetings had to be conducted in person unless there were 'Stay At Home' orders in place.
Not being classified as locked-down means that councillors must attend in person to meet their requirements as a representative, or be excused from attending.
Council has until December 2021 to amend those rules to allow council meetings to be held electronically - meaning councillors could satisfy their requirements if they dialed in.
