The Warialda Wombats started their season on a high on Saturday against the Armidale Rams.
In Warialda on Saturday, the Wombats pipped the Armidale Rams in the men's game.
Armidale couldn't muster up enough women for the league tag but they brought a men's side.
But it was the Wombats who scored a 22-20 victory.
"We definitely have a lot of improving to do but we have worked out where we have got to be and we will keep moving forward from here," president and player Jake Kennedy said.
They will host the Tigers this Friday nights under lights from 6.30pm.
Kennedy said the community is looking forward to it.
"I think with Covid, everyone has missed it, especially our small towns," he said.
"Without footy the town doesn't have much."
The women's starts at 6.30pm with the men's following at 7.30pm.
