Well, the 2014 “amazing and awesome” will be held at the Highlanders Rugby Park at 2pm on Saturday, March 1, when the 2014 Toughen Up Challenge will kick off again.
Twenty teams contested the last event and Ms Lennon said indications were that entries are set to double next year.
“This is why we have early bird entries. We’re limited to 50 teams, that’s 200 competitors so the entries are there for people to get in early and not miss out on competing,” Ms Lennon said.
“Early bird entries are open now and close on December 31. This week we’ve had an enormous amount of feedback from our TV ads and we’re sending out entry forms every day.
The next challenge will also include a children’s event.
“The Junior Toughen Up Challenge will include teams of two, and entries for that are only $15.
“It will enable the kids to get involved in the day as well,” Ms Lennon said.
“They will do some of the legs that the seniors do, with a few fun things thrown in; slime and mud and all those wonderful things. It’s open to ages 10 to 13-year-olds.
“We’re hoping for between 20 and 30 teams in the junior event, which will be run while the seniors are off running around the town, so there will be no crossover between junior and senior teams.”
Ms Lennon said to host the event the organisers do rely heavily on volunteers and seek support from those interested community members to lend a hand on the day.
This year’s overall winners were a men’s division team called ‘Estwing’ comprised of Peter Horwood, Sam Horwood, Dan Wilks and Chad Dunn, however it is not yet known if this team will back up again next year to defend their title.
