MINISTER for Disability Services John Ajaka met with Inverell mayor Paul Harmon yesterday to discuss the liberty swing project during his visit to Inverell to announce a boost in funding for respite care.

Cr Harmon said the Minister was also in town to view the site for the liberty swing.
“He’s looking quite favourably on our application,” Cr Harmon said.
“No money forthcoming today, but certainly I think the visit here today has been a very positive outcome and I’m very hopeful that the Minister will come forward with the funding for that swing.
“I re-enforced with the minister, as I have done previously with Adam Marshall, that if they fund the liberty swing, which is about $40,000, council will also fund extra playground equipment for people with disabilities and that will make the whole project around about a $70,000 project.
Cr Harmon said council’s contribution to the whole project was planned at about $30,000.
Tanya Fox, service manager from Brighter Access explained why the liberty swing was important to disabled children.
“Because it allows them to truly become a part of the community,” Ms Fox said.
“If you’ve got a child in a wheel chair and you bring them to the park they tend to be able to watch what everyone else does.
“Now they get to be part of it.”
