There was a sting in the tail of the modest drought package announced by Katrina Hodgkinson this week.
On the Pulse refers to the omission of the 20 or so words that might have been included in the Minister’s media release detailing the terms of the package.
They failed to inform eager and desperate farmers that they would only receive 50 per cent of their costs with new eligible projects requiring them to come up with the other half.
One spokesperson from the NSW Department of Primary Industries said “there was only so much they could include in a media release”.
Surely, in times like these, clarity above all, should be the order of the day.
Morning tea to mark Women’s Day
Inverell Shire Council is holding an event to celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8.
Traditionally International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 each year to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
A morning tea will be held at Inverell Station, on the Ashford Road to mark the occasion.
The morning tea will run from 9.30am to approximately 11.30am and the cost will be just $10 per person.
Members of Inverell Inner Wheel are doing the catering.
Deputy mayor Di Baker and Cr Jacki Watts will host the morning tea. Guest speakers Denise Hills, Cynthia Archer and Shelley Hodges will talk on the theme ‘Inspiring Change’.
Donations from the morning tea will go to Inverell Inner Wheel and Operation Operating Room. For more information, please contact Barb Eshman, Executive public relations officer with Inverell Shire Council on 6728 8276 or email Barbara.Eshman@inverell.nsw.gov.au.
Caregivers sought to complete survey
Are you a caregiver, 18 years or older, who can complete a short survey.
Carers in and around Inverell are needed to contribute to a study of carers' mental health and well being.
Local carers do not have the same access to services as people in cities, so this study will help inform policy makers about local challenges.
The study aims to give a voice to some hard-working, and often silent, Australians.
Participants are asked to complete a confidential survey, which is simple and takes just 30 minutes to complete, online or on paper.
People who complete the survey will receive a $5 gift voucher.
Complete the survey at the website www.une.edu.au/crn-mentalhealth/ carers_study/.
If you need more information or a paper copy, contact Peta Ryan on 1800 770 182 or email pryan9@une.edu.au.
Beware of scams when looking for love
Beware when looking for love not to let your guard down.
Romance scams continue to rob millions of dollars from vulnerable people every year and there is no shortage of predators online.
We hear a sure sign someone is being scammed is when the supposed suitor starts making repeated requests for money.
Once you are on the hook, a scammer will reel you in as long as you take the bait.
In 2012, the ACCC reported almost 46 per cent of people who responded to contact by a dating and romance scammer suffered a financial loss.
It is estimated more than $23 million a year is lost by Australians through dating and romance scams.
