“Quirindi have been doing it a bit hard this year, but it was good to get down there and notch up a good win,” he said.
“The score-line could have possibly blown out a bit more but the ball was a bit greasy and the final passes didn’t go to hand. It was a good result.”
Bremner said the Highlanders went into the game feeling reasonably confident.
“But Quirindi generally spring an upset once every year, so I’m just glad it wasn’t us,” he said.
“The game is quite hard to explain. Quirindi had some quite good players, but they just seemed to lack any direction. At times they played some reasonably handy football, but our defence was very good.
“The conditions made it a little bit hard to handle, so there was a bit of turnover ball and a lot of scrums. We were probably never going to lose the game once we got into it, but it was a very pleasing result anyway, just happy to get it over and done with.”
Bremner said the win just about shores them up to be in the top tier, which was their first objective for this season.
“We’ll come in fifth with the final game of this round coming up,” Bremner said.
“We’ve got Gunnedah this weekend at home, so if we happen to beat them there’s every chance that we’ll end up in fourth position which would be an even better result.”
Bremner said best players on the day were Michael Schneider, who filled in at inside centre and played a massive game defensively and scored many points with his boot. Schneider picked up the three points and player’s player.
Chad Makham got the two points for his attacking game and breakaway Will Hollingsworth received the one point.
