Organiser Matt Cribb said he would be expecting the level of competition on the day to be very high.
“It’s sort of in amongst the run of campdrafts, through the warmer months the season sort of kicks-off again,” Cribb said.
“At this stage we’re going to have about 550 runs for the weekend.
“We’ve got people from a few places up in Queensland coming down, they’re coming over from the coast, from Grafton, so they come from a fair way away really.”
Cribb thinks campdrafting as a sport is increasing in popularity and he said it was on the way up.
“Anything with horses is going to incur some expense,” he said.
“But the beauty about campdrafting is that generally the equipment you use at home riding around can be utilised in the drafts. There’s no special equipment, as long as it is safe.
“Obviously you need trucks to get there in, but it’s a great family sport that mum, dad and the kids can take part in, and you can make as much fun as you want out of it.”
Novice, encouragement, ladies and open events will be held on Saturday, while the Bob Hoscher Maiden, junior draft, juvenile draft and the Macintyre Station Open will be held on Sunday.
Cribb said the sport involved three minds, the cow, the horse and the rider, and to have a good draft the three had to sort of click together. Perhaps easier said than done.
