BOTH local and visiting golfers enjoyed the sunshine for the annual Inverell Veteran’s Open day, held on Tuesday August 26.

About 85 players attended the day and Inverell golfers performed well. They took out many of the major prizes.
Results for the day’s play were:
Division 1 Men’s winner D Vidler from Glen Innes on 37 points. First runner-up was S Kent from Inverell on 36 points and the second runner-up was L Finney from Inverell on 36 points. J Shadlow won the longest drive.
Division 2 Men’s winner was P Bucknell from Inverell on 41 points. First runner-up was B McLennon from Inverell on 38 points and second runner-up was S Tubb from Inverell on 37 points. C Hilliard from Goondiwindi made the longest drive.
Division 3 Men’s winner was G Ditton from Inverell with 38 points. First runner-up was M Lyne from Inverell on 37 points, second runner-up was T Ecroyd from Goondiwindi on 36 points and also from Goondiwindi, B Reardon made the longest drive.
The best top nine was taken out by R Hudson from Inverell on 23 points, the best bottom nine was won by Tom Turner from Moree with 20 points and L Finney was the scratch winner. Inverell golfers made a clean sweep of the Ladies’ Division. The winner was S Williams with 35 points, first runner-up was J Frater and second runner-up was M Schofield on 32 points. Scratch winner was S Williams and the long drive west to K Nicholson. The best ladies top nine was won by M Reynolds on 22 points and the best bottom nine went to J Ditton on 16 points. Last Saturday was a single stroke event and was taken out by Tony Baldwin with 67 net from Matt Warrellon 69 net. Next in line were Rod Jones and Steve Glover both recording 69 net. Nearest the pins were Jim Shadlow, John Coote and Mick (Tiger) Tanner.
Sunday was a single Stableford and it was also the first round of The Marquart Jug. The winner of the day was David Fox with 43 points. Runner up was Eric Higgins with 40 points while Billy Russell and Angus Bird both had 38 points. Nearest the pins were Simon Smith and Brooke (Jock) Sheppard. This Saturday will be a single Stableford with this Sunday being The Breast Support Group Charity Day.
It will be a two person Ambrose and is only $25 per player with great prizes, includes lunch and will be a 10.30am shotgun start.
