Many Northern Tablelands brigades will be opening their doors on Saturday, including Tingha, Bingara, Ebor, Glen Innes and Guyra.
“The RFS annual Open Day is a great chance for residents of our region to meet the volunteers who devote themselves to protecting our community from day to day,” Mr Marshall said.
“It’s also an excellent opportunity to learn how to be better prepared for the possibility of bushfires.
“Residents will be given the opportunity to understand the bushfire risk in their area and how they can prepare themselves, their houses and their families.”
Mr Marshall is encouraging the community to consider joining the NSW RFS and to use Open Day as a chance to find out more about the different roles available.
“The NSW RFS is the world’s largest volunteer firefighting agency with 74,000 volunteers. It has been fantastic to see the recent increase in numbers, but we always need more volunteers to keep our communities safe,” he said.
“Many brigades will hold demonstrations, showing the public their firefighting skills and the important role they play during emergencies,” Mr Marshall said.
“I’d encourage all local residents to come along to their local NSW RFS Open Day, join in the fun and thank our NSW RFS volunteers for the invaluable work they do.”
At their local station people will find something for all the family including: fire demonstrations; the opportunity to climb on a fire truck; get advice on preparing your property and completing your Bush Fire Survival Plan; and have photos taken with your local firefighters
At some locations there may be displays by other emergency services, jumping castles, face painting, and sausage sizzles.
