Local movie captures attention of police
The success of the North West Film Festival in Bingara may have a bit to answer for when it comes to ‘over-enthusing’ our local film-making talent. On the Pulse has been told that local tertiary film students returned all fired up and ready to push on with their production after the festival

Part of their film shoot involved a police drug bust. Nothing wrong with that. Scenes were shot at Lake Inverell. Good idea.
It involved replica cap guns and bags of white powder (flour). Very realistic.
The film’s director did not inform the local police. Oh dear, big mistake.
Not surprising then that our local police responded quickly and in numbers to calls about violence, drugs and firearms ‘offences’ going down at the lake.
On the Pulse can only imagine that callout. It would have been worse than an echidna in a balloon factory for the responding police officers who would have been as tense as a butcher’s thumb. Could be that prompted the student’s very appropriate apology to all the neighbouring residents, visitors and police.
But they then invited everyone to their film at next year’s festival, leaving On the Pulse agape and wondering just how far that particular envelope could be pushed.
Another petition hits a desk in parliament
On the Pulse was very chuffed to receive a message from our MP Adam Marshall this week letting us know that the petition to drive those pesky flying foxes from our community was well and truly introduced to our state Parliament.
And somewhere on the schedule will be a lively debate about those little beasts that were (incidentally) here first. But that’s another argument.
That aside, 10,000 signatures is nothing to sneeze at and OTP is sure the desires for a bat-free CBD were in the minds of all those who put pen to petition. All the same, it seems too bad all that effort wasn’t put into an exponential replay of the famous ‘bid-for-a-better-Inverell-Hospital’ petition a couple of years ago that is probably being used as a coaster for somebody’s parliamentary coffee cup just about now.
Health and management are the watchwords behind this bat business with the potential of Hendra rearing its ugly head. But OTP was left pondering with furrowed brow, wouldn’t we need the best health care facility close at hand…just in case?
