Gallery supervisor Jo Williams said the opening night was attended by a keen crowd of around 50 artists and enthusiasts and offered exhibitors the chance to engage the community in their practice.
“It was not just painting,” she said.
“We had fold art, lead lighting, pottery … It was really pleasing. There is some great talent amongst them.”
She said for local tutors and students, the exhibition was the culmination of efforts and a chance share interests with the community.
“For a lot of students you get to see the evolution of their work which is really pleasing,” Jo said.
Local artists have been taking classes in a variety of mediums and Jo said the community investment in the arts is essential.
For many artists, she agreed, the opportunity to exhibit their work can be a source of inspiration to produce more, while each artist’s oeuvre paints a uniquely subjective glance at local life.
“It gives people another outlet,” Jo said.
“Not just art, it is also the social side that gets people out and mixing with people who have similar interests.”
A number of the works are currently up for sale and will hang until Thursday, December 11.
