To supplement the wood supplied by the contractors to local Hospitals, and reduce the cost, the town authorities organized an annual wood parade to the hospital. The parade vehicles included early model motor lorries, horse drawn carts, drays, wagons and even boys with billy carts, all well loaded with wood. The vehicles lined up in the main street and were paraded through the town, where a festival like day was enjoyed by all. - Helen Brown
