Inverell High won the toss and opted to the crease first. Initially, that decision looked very shaky indeed, after 10 overs Inverell were four wickets down for only 17 runs and things looked grim for the side. 

It was a fifth wicket partnership of 54 from Tom Scoble (28) Richard Wilson (22) that took the score to a hopeful 71 runs.

With the runs ticking over, Inverell then lost another four quick wickets to be 8/78. 

Scoble managed to top score with 58 runs, and his partnership with Mark Horneman put on 30 valuable runs before Scoble’s wicket fell with his side at 9/108.

The Inverell tail gave a slight wag when it put on a handy 17 runs for the last wicket. Horneman finished with nine runs and Josh Palmer hit 10 to see Inverell high dismissed in 38th over for 125 runs.

Best of the MacLean bowlers were Z Honeybrook 1/15 from 8 overs, H Nicholson 4/21 from eight overs, D Causey 2/18 from eight overs and J McMahon 2/24 from six overs.

If Scoble led the way with the bat, he did something similar with the ball when he took two early wickets to have MacLean down on 2/12. MacLean recovered and fought back with a 46 run partnership, before Richard Wilson made the vital break through.

Wickets then tumbled and MacLean was dismissed for 91 runs in the 38th over.

Honeybrook scored a fine 43 that held the MacLean innings together, before becoming the sixth wicket to fall.

Scoble took 4/12 from eight overs while Billy Higgins managed 3/11 from eight overs and Declan Drake managed 1/7 from only two overs. Kyle Chilcott  0/21 and Richard Wilson 2/17 also bowled well to restrict run rate.

Coach Chris Drake said he was very pleased with the outcome of the match.

“I’m very pleased with the efforts of Tom Scoble, Mark Horneman and Richard Wilson, who all played excellent games,” Drake said.  

“This win takes us up to the top four in the state, which is top result because it has been a very long time since Inverell High has done anything like this.”

Inverell High now plays in the semi-final of the Davidson Shield (final four comprehensive high schools) against Epping Boys High at Sydney.
