Investigations into reports of a man approaching young children in the Inverell area in recent days are ongoing.
THIS WEEK:
Police have released a description of a man who approached a number of children and adults in Inverell on Monday.
Around 9am, a woman, sitting with her 14-month-old daughter outside a cafe on Otho Street, was approached by a man who offered to take the young girl for a walk. The woman declined the offer, telling the man to leave her alone, before he left the location on foot.
About midday, police were contacted by a woman who had been approached by a man inside a shop on Byron Street. The man made a number of inappropriate remarks to the woman, before leaving the location on foot.
Around 1.30pm, a man approached a two-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl as they played in a front yard on Swan Street. The boy’s mother interrupted the man as he spoke to the children, prompting him to leave the location.
All three matters were reported to police, and local officers are keen to speak to the man who is believed to have made all three approaches.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 40s or 50s, with brown eyes, grey receding hair worn in a pony-tail, and grey stubble on his face.
Witnesses have reported seeing the man travelling in two different vehicles:
- A faded, red Toyota Corolla; and,
- A white, older model van with a sticker on the driver’s side of the rear bumper.
Anyone who has seen or been approached by a man matching this description is encouraged to contact Inverell Police on (02) 6722 0599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
