“Unfortunately we slackened off a little and let them back in,” Clark said.
“We did score a try at the end, but time had run out by then.
“I think once we get our player combinations together, which has to happen shortly, then we’ll start to see things turn around and lifted up a notch.”
Clark said Barraba had some good, tight forward play that took a lot of work to hold them out.
“We would have been lucky to have five minutes of ball in the first 30 or 40 minutes,” Clark said.
He said the Highlanders held Barraba for a very long time during the second-half, and they showed signs of fatigue.
“We were wearing them out. Then it seemed as if our boys pulled up a bit short and thought the work had been done,” Clark said.
“But a few things went to Barraba and they ended up with extra points.”
The weekend’s result left the Highlanders with two losses and a win and an expected tough match against Moree coming up this weekend.
“We’ve got a tough run the next few weeks. We come up against all the top sides,” Clark said. “We always enjoy playing in Moree, it’s a close game, the field’s always in fairly good nick and there’s been good rivalry between Inverell and Moree over the years.
