“Earlier this week I was able to visit Armidale’s Pathfinders’ Tilbuster Station to see how funding of $500,000 delivered in the Federal Budget would assist young homeless and disadvantaged people in Armidale and Glen Innes,” he said.
“Pathfinders will use the grant to repair and renovate two buildings - one at Tilbuster and the other in Glen Innes - to provide accommodation for homeless youth.”
Mr Joyce said the second round would have $25 million quarantined for those projects seeking funding of $1 million or less.
“This will create more opportunities for councils and organisations in the New England who may not need $10 million in funding, but do need a smaller amount to achieve real outcomes,” he said.
Mr Joyce said he would encourage all eligible parties to apply, with the National Stronger Regions Fund designed to strengthen communities and deliver economic growth within Australia’s regions.
“There were 405 applications received under round one seeking funding of over $1.2 billion, reflecting on the importance of this program to Australia’s regions,” he said.
Mr Joyce said given that second round applicants had more time to develop and submit their applications the quality for this second round was expected to be much higher.
“Applicants will also be allowed to submit two applications,” he said.
“This is a huge boost for potential applicants in New England Electorate, allowing them to target two key projects which may not have been funded by other means.”
