INVERELL lady golfers matched skills with players from Wallangarra and Goondiwindi in Queensland, Moree, Warialda, Delungra, Tenterfield, Deepwater, Glen Innes, Walcha, Guyra and Armidale on Thursday when the annual Inverell Open 4BBB Tournament for the Marie Trim Salver was hosted by the Inverell Golf Club.

Ladies president Lyn O’Brien said this year’s event was very well attended.
“It’s a really huge field for us here today, 84 is a lot of players,” O’Brien said.
“It’s quite a prestigious event. To get this many people coming is just outstanding, particularly the way travel is at the moment.
“The course is outstanding, and everyone has enjoyed those conditions. Weatherwise it’s been perfect and everyone has had a lot of fun.”
O’Brien said last year’s event drew 62 golfers.
“So we’re really happy with the response, and the greenkeeper’s done a great job, he’s a great greenkeeper,” she said.
Another person who no doubt tipped her hat to the greenkeeper, and who went home feeling very happy with the day was Moree golfer, Lyn Fing, who was seen to smile a great deal after shooting a hole-in-one on the sixth.
“It was smooth running through the course, with so many people on it, and the men really helped us with the scorecards and helping around the field with spotting, so that’s thanks to the men as well,” O’Brien said.
Locals Liz Hobday and Jenny Paton took out the day with 45 points, after a count-back from Jan o’Neil and Shirley Horwood.
