Inverell Rotary Club president Hugh Holland said the reason behind the award itself is not complicated.
“We’ve just trying to recognise a police officer who’s been worthy of recognition because most of them don’t get recognition,” he said.
Senior Constable Vanessa Kelson was the inaugural winner in 2011, and Senior Constable Heath Roberts was recognised in 2013.
Rotary member Bob Neich conceived of the award in 2011, and the club voted to recognise a member of the local constabulary.
The community is asked to consider an officer who has displayed acts of kindness, courtesy, courage, compassion or dedication to their duty.
The winner will then be entered for the NSW state Police Officer of the Year Award.
Officers considered may come from stations in Inverell, Tingha, Bundarra, Delungra, Ashford and Yetman.
Both men and women, uniformed or plain-clothed are eligible for consideration.
People are asked to provide the name, rank, location and reason for nominating the officer.
Hugh said they dedicate one of their Thursday night meetings to host the award.
The recipients, all nominees and their families are invited for the dinner.
Nominations forms are due in by August 7.
Forms are available here in the pages of The Inverell Times or the Inverell TOurism Centre.
They may be posted to: The Secretary, Rotary Club of Inverell, PO Box 360, Inverell, 2360.
