WHAT mayor Paul Harmon described as “a bit of a get together” took place at the Visitors Information Centre on Wednesday night. It commenced at 5.15pm and was attended by about 20 people involved with Inverell’s Multicultural Day, held in March during Harmony Week.

An informal function, it was hosted by Inverell Shire Council especially for anyone who helped with the day.
“I think it’s just a bit of a relax and unwind and talk about how successful the event was, and also to gee up and start some planning for next year’s Multicultural Day,” Cr Harmon said.
“It’s great to see how embracing the Inverell community is of the multiculturalism that we have in our community. I speak about how diverse our community has become all the time.”
Cr Harmon said with 32 nationalities involved in this year’s day, it made him very proud to be an ‘Inverellian’.
Inverell branch People to People Group chairman Les Parsons said the event was just a small thank you evening.
“Not everyone’s here, but we’ve got a good roll-up really,” Mr Parsons said.
“We’re talking about how we’re going to be bigger and better next year. We’re not sure of the date for Harmony Week, but everyone is so enthused and that’s great.
"Thanks need to go to the council for their help too, and we’re just looking forward to next year.”
Mr Parsons said there would be a lot more entertainment next year.
“We fell short a bit on some people who were going to entertain this year, but we’re looking at next year and if it costs us money, well, so be it,” he said. “It will bring bigger crowds and keep the crowd there longer.”
The 2016 event is set down to be held in Campbell Park.
