Nominations close on Friday, and organisers are anticipating a difficult decision, with many impressive nominees to choose from.
“There's been quite a few come in, we’re expecting a few more,” Peter Caddey from Inverell Tourist Information Centre said of the nominations.
“They come from all walks of life.
“I know each and every one of the nominees will certainly be deserving of the win.”
Peter said nominating was as easy as filling out a simple form, and encouraged the community to nominate anybody they considered worthy.
“Somebody who has certainly excelled in supporting the community, they could quite easily be an unsung hero,” he suggested.
“Those sorts of people deserve to be recognised, even if they’d quite shy about what they do and are not looking for accolades.”
He thought the awards were a wonderful vehicle for thanking members of the community who kept quiet about their work, and said there were no restrictions on the nominees or their contributions to the community.
“It will be wonderful for the judging committee to see the diverse range of people and events nominated,” he said.
The nomination closing date has been moved up by almost two months so that the paver laid to honour the winner will be ready for Australia Day next year.
The 2015 Citizen of the Year will no longer have to wait a whole year to lay the paver, and will place it in the Macintyre Lions Path in Victoria Park on the same day their win is announced.
Nomination forms can be picked up from the Tourist Information Centre, council's administration centre on Otho Street or downloaded from the council website.
