The annual service event saw an array of fridges, washing machines, televisions and computers collected from the kerbside.
Inverell Shire Council sponsors the event to reduce the amount of whitegoods and electronic waste entering landfill.
This year, close to 100 households registered for the collection, and bulky items such as televisions and washing machines were the most common items disposed of.
Lions Club representative, Duane O’Brien said this year, the club was supported by additional volunteers from the Sapphire City Motor Sports Club.
“We had some big double fridges to collect and the extra helpers from the Club were very welcome. All up, we had about 22 volunteers who braved the heat”, Mr O’Brien said.
Items collected were delivered to the landfill site on Burtenshaw Road, where they will be stripped, so components are appropriately separated and recycled.
Inverell Shire Council Mayor, Paul Harmon praised the Macintyre Lions Club for their support of the annual collection.
“It’s a real credit to the club to see so many members volunteering in such warm conditions,” he said.
Duane thanked Northaven for donating the trucks for the pick-up, the Aussie Hotel for lunch and collection help from Sapphire City Motor Sports Club members.
