At about 11.30am, staff at Wagga’s Sacred Heart Primary School received an anonymous phone call claiming a bomb had been planted on the school grounds.
The school and church were immediately evacuated while police swept the area.
Staff and students returned to the school at about 12.15pm.
The hoax call was believed to have come from an automated dialler, with the computerised voice speaking with an American accent.
Sacred Heart assistant principal Sam King praised the quick action of staff.
“As soon as the call was received, the police were informed, we implemented our critical incident plan and evacuated the school,” he said.
“Thankfully, the threat was a hoax and everyone is safe and well.”
Junee High School was also subjected to a bomb threat this morning but students were at a swimming carnival.
More than 30 other schools around Australia reportedly received a similar threat today.
It comes amid a series of bomb threats targeting schools in recent weeks.
