A MAN charged over the fatal hit-and-run of an Inverell pedestrian will remain behind bars after his case was adjourned.

Ronald Barry George Northam appeared via video link in Inverell Local Court on Thursday but was not required to enter pleas to the nine charges including dangerous driving cause death, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, driving while disqualified, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police allege Northam was driving a early-model Toyota Camry which struck Daryl Brown as he walked along Cameron St on the night of March 5.
The vehicle involved failed to stop and took off while witnesses rendered first aid to Mr Brown.
He was rushed to Inverell hospital but died hours later.
Northam was arrested by Inverell detectives on April 27 and charged over the crash.
Police allege Northam is disqualified from driving for life in NSW and was intoxicated when he got behind the wheel of the unregistered sedan, which was seized from a William St property for forensic analysis.
During brief proceedings yesterday morning, Magistrate Michael O'Brien ordered detectives to compile a brief of evidence into the case.
The matter is expected to be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions due to the serious nature of the charges. Northam made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
