The Saints will now prepare for their first home game of the year against Narrabri Eagles on Saturday, April 8 at Varley Oval. The day will be the club's sponsors’ evening, where remaining home games for the season will be auctioned off, starting at 5pm.
Any business wanting to be part of the Saints’ 2017 campaign are invited to Saturday’s game and watch the clash from the viewing area of the Hogan Pavilion at Varley Oval. Successful bidders earn the right to ‘host’ the Dennis Hogan Pavilion at Varley with drinks and nibbles provided by the club.
Inverell Saints Juniors side played a curtain-raiser match with combined Moree Suns and Armidale Nomads team members. A feisty game showed that last year’s premiers will field another very strong team in 2017, despite losing the majority of their 2016 team. The juniors’ season will official kick off on April 29 at home, hosting the Armidale.
The women’s team is still recruiting players with a late April season kick off. There will be approximately 10 home and away games plus a finals series. Seventeen-year-old Eleanore Ford has continued to be a dominant force in the North West women’s AFL, again making the State Academy squad.
Seb Blair, Scott Thomas, Cody McGillivray, Josh Desborough, Lachie Martin, Jonno Roberts and Blake Wall head to Sydney as a part of the NIAS AFL squad. They will play Newington College and Maroubra under 17s.
The trip also takes in a AFL game at the SCG and the opportunity to watch a Sydney Swans recovery session and train with Sydney Swans Academy Coach Tim Cotter at Newcastle on their way home.
Anyone wishing to try AFL is urged to come along to training at 4.30 on Thursdays at Varley Oval.
