Inverell Council’s recently developed draft Inclusion Action Plan is now on public exhibition, with community comments invited until June 2.
Local mayor Paul Harmon, said the council was putting the town’s facilities and services under the microscope to find opportunities for improving the way people with a disability are included in the community on a day-to-day basis.
“The plan sets out our priority actions to help people with a disability get around, access information, participate in cultural and recreational activities and have their say on our community,” he said.
The process to develop the plan also included a community survey and Cr Harmon said the grassroots level input has been vital to help shape the plan’s goals.
“Council discussed the survey findings at our recent meeting and the results also highlighted areas to help residents access our facilities and interact with council,” he said.
“Council has received some positive feedback on our network of walking paths, library services and also tactile surfaces for vision impaired residents, but the plan also focuses on identifying broader opportunities to build inclusion and be a more welcoming community to people with a disability.”
Copies of the draft plan are available at the Council Administration Centre in Otho Street, Inverell Library, as well as online at www.myinverellmysay.com.au.
