Friday June 23: Inverell Shire Public Library – The Sapphire Community and District Schools NAIDOC Week Art Competition official opening and awards will be on from 5.30pm. Schools include Inverell Public, Ross Hill, Tingha Public and Bingara Central School. The exhibition will remain on display for approximately three weeks.

Monday, June 26: Ross Hill Public School – The school’s junior AECG student representatives will host the official flag raising ceremony at 10.30am. Stage three Aboriginal girls will give a traditional dance performance and the stage three choir will sing in Gamilaraay. The school’s community morning tea will begin at approximately 11.20am. At 12pm, local poet Esther Gardiner will talk about storytelling with infants classes.
Wednesday, June 28: Ross Hill Public School – The NAIDOC Week principal’s primary school awards ceremony will be on from 12.05pm and the infants ceremony from 1.05pm.
Thursday, June 29: Macintyre High School – The NAIDOC assembly, flag raising and morning tea will be on from 10am.
Deb’s Place Café – Local poet Esther Gardiner will read some of her work at 10:30am.
Inverell High School – The school will host a NAIDOC morning tea, flag raising, awards and a formal assembly from 11am.
Friday, June 30: Ross Hill Public School – Aboriginal cultural group Koomurri will lead the whole school through a day of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week. The Koomurri dancers have performed all over the world, including the Sydney and Athens Olympics.
Activities include a smoking ceremony and welcome song and dance, didgeridoo show and storytelling, artefacts, weaponry and bush survival, Aboriginal face painting, Aboriginal song and dance, Aboriginal art, boomerang throwing and a farewell concert. The Student Representative Council will host a BBQ lunch for the school, parents and community.
Sunday, July 2: Albury Street, Ashford – The Ashford LALC will host a NAIDOC Week open day from 10am-2pm at their offices on 25 Albury Street.
Monday, July 3: Amethyst Street, Tingha – Tingha’s street march will begin at 11am, meeting by 10.45am at the BEST Access Centre on 4 Amethyst Street to the Anaiwan LALC office. The welcome to country, flag raising a speeches will follow.
Tingha Sport and Recreation Club – Following the march and speeches there will be activities for children, lawn bowls with the NSW police and a hot lunch served at the club.
Tuesday, July 4: Turnham carpark, Campbell Street (opposite the library) – The Inverell/Tingha NAIDOC Committee will host a street march from 10am, from Turnham carpark to Victoria Park. A welcome to country, flag raising and speeches will follow.
Thursday, July 6: Danthonia Bruderhof Community – At 12pm the community will host a lunch at their Gwydir Highway location to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Everyone is welcome. A bus with limited seating will be leaving from the Linking Together Centre on Waratah Avenue from 11.30am.
Inverell Art Gallery – Official opening of NAIDOC Exhibition ‘Our Languages Matter’, a collection of pieces from Indigenous artists around the region. Entry is free and all are welcome from 5.30pm. Hot soup will be available on the night for $5 per serve. The exhibition will remain open until Thursday, August 3.
Wednesday, July 19: Inverell Public School – The school will host their NAIDOC Week assembly and awards from 10.30am.
September 22: The Inverell/Tingha NAIDOC Committee are postponing their family fun day until September to make the most of the weather. A colour run and movie screening is planned. Follow the Facebook page for more details.
