“That’s where the best stories come from,” she insisted.
“I’ve always been a bit of a storyteller. I love when something interesting happens to me, and you can find the right words to tell it dramatically. So it’s not necessarily a lie, but ‘the fish is this big’ kind of story.”
President of the North West Film Festival, which will be in Inverell for the first time this year, Meg will be pulling one of her own memories into the heightened world of animation.
“I was waiting for a train and this girl ran past me and I just always remembered, she was wearing holographic boots, she had a holographic unicorn bag. It was mardi gras, so she was dressed up.
“She had this long, flowing hair and I swear she ran past in slow motion,” Meg laughed.
“I was just sitting there on the ground minding my own business, but this tiny little friendship bracelet fell out of her bag and it slid under a vending machine and she just kept going.”
Despite her four-inch platform boots, Meg found herself picking up the cheap piece of jewellery and sprinting after its owner. Pushing her way up the crowded elevator and maneuvering around a group of policemen, she jumped onto the train and finally reunited the girl with her bracelet.
“She was like ‘Oh ok, thanks.’ So I always remember it as this really thrilling moment for me, but it probably meant nothing to her and the bracelet probably meant nothing to her.”
Meg is keen to reimagine the moment through film, and give others a glimpse into the unique way she processes the world around her.
The Inverell Times will follow Meg as she puts together her film. Watch this space to see how an idea can transform into a story, and how Meg tackles each challenge in the filmmaking process.
