Children may spot beloved character Grug hanging around the store, and locals are invited to come along and discuss their favourite books.
The team at The Dust Jacket are also trying to build awareness to a literacy program they are starting for preschool age children.
“There are kids and families out there who don't have reasonable access to books, and for whatever reason these families may not feel comfortable coming in to their bookshop, and for us that's a real shame,” manager Troy Mclachlan said.
“So we decided to do something about it.”
The Dust Jacket has partnered with Kindamindi preschool to get children signed up to Little Readers. Little Readers will provide a book a month, for free to each family and with a huge amount of local support are organising events specifically designed to help children become stronger, more confident readers, and create a more inclusive community.
To be eligible to the program, children must be aged under five, and families must have a health care card. Spots are limited to funding, so for any more information please contact The Dust Jacket.
