“We want to be leaders that make an impact,” Jack said, adding that he hoped to make long lasting changes.
Alex was keen to be remembered in the years to come, and to broaden the scope of students taking up leadership roles.
“People kind of see the SRC (student representative council) as only if you’re smart or really good at something,” she said. “I want for everyone to understand that it’s everyone’s decision. It’s not just the smartest people that can be in the SRC.” She planned to make the students in all years comfortable sharing their ideas.
Mental health is a key issue for the pair, who plan to bring the school together for RUOK Day on September 14, an event that encourages people to share their personal struggles.
“Depression affects too many young kids, and we want to help,” Jack said.
“It’s taking a toll on a lot of kids and we don’t want to have to go through losing one of our mates.”
