The stripped trees, fallen branches and crushed vegetation around the riverside area near the town’s bridge are on a Crown land reserve managed by the NSW Department of Industry.
A statement released by the department’s Lands & Forestry service on Tuesday, August 29, said it had been working with Inverell Shire Council and the Office of Environment and Heritage on the matter.
“A full site assessment will be undertaken to identify works required to rehabilitate the site and, based on the outcome of that assessment, dangerous trees will be lopped or removed,” it said
Any clearing of native vegetation will be kept to a minimum in order to comply with the Local Land Services Amendment Act 2016.
No time frame was given was the follow-up measures.
