Results are in for the major category winners from the weekend’s Inverell Kennel & Training Club championships.

The two-day all-breeds competition at Inverell Showground attracted 245 entries this year and was judged by Helen Furber from NSW and John Lewington from South Australia. Dogs were entered under the groupings of Toys, Terriers, Gundogs, Hounds, Working Dogs, Utility and Non-Sporting.
Saturday’s winners were judged by Ms Furber. Best in Show being awarded to the Pomeranian Ch Sunryze Poms ‘Let’s Start Right Now’ owned by T Waters from Tamworth. Runner Up Best in Show went to English Springer Spaniel Ch ‘Deferlee Kiwi Express’ owned by R & L Corbett/ D & R Stockham also from Tamworth.
Sunday’s winners were judged by Mr Lewington. Best in Show went to the Jack Russell Terrier Ch ‘Ouwitllemate Lion Heart’ owned by K Gowen from Armidale. Runner Up Best in Show was awarded to the Border Collie Grd Ch NZ Ch Yarrancoly ‘Shock To The System’ owned by T & J Baldwin from Inverell.
Organiser’s reported a good turn-out for the annual competition despite rain on Saturday.
All breeders competing in the event are formally registered to ensure that the health and welfare of their animals.
Inverell District Dart Tornament
Inverell District Dart Tornament saw the following place-getters emerge from the two-day event:
Mixed Doubles: First - Darren Oliver and Emily Austin; Second - Larry Frappell and Sue Wilde; Third – Leon Lovett and Julie Sheahen; Fourth – Kyle Binge and Nicole Smith.
Men’s Doubles: First – Stewart Smith and Kyle Binge; Second – Ken Luxford and Paul Buckley; Third – Larry Frappell and Ron Evans; Fourth – Darren Oliver and Max Cook.
Ladies Doubles: First – Roz Roberts and Vickie Hicks; Second – Shirley Gleeson and Julie Sheahen; Third – Lyn Wright and Sue Wilde; Fourth – Jenny Binge and Patty McMasters.
Men’s Singles: First – Stewart Smith; Second – Paul Buckley; Third – Simon Sutherland; Fourth – Shannon O’Brien.
Ladies Singles: First – Emily Austen; Second- Rebecca Backhouse; Third – Sandra Backhouse; Fourth – Daphne Priddle.
Mens Pegout: Larry Frappell, 138.
Ladies Pegout: Rebecca Bachouse, 91.

Cricket
All senior cricket was cancelled due to rain and wet outfields. With rain reaching eight to10ml on Friday, the surfaces were unable to recover leading to Saturday’s game cancellation.
The Association hopes start the new season on Saturday October 28.
Despite rain triggering cancellations for the first three Saturdays, Inverell’s three-day carnival is still planned to start on Friday, November 3.
