The event is being hosted by Inverell Shire Council and invites grandparents and their families to enjoy a two-hour free high tea, complete with live performance.
Inverell mayor and proud grandparent, Paul Harmon said the High Tea has received unprecedented interest and will feature a Melbourne based Mad Hatter performer, Craze Dance performance, photo booth, twisted balloons and plenty of prizes.
“Bookings for the event have been steaming in over the last week, so we’re expecting quite a large crowd on Saturday,” he said.
Cr Harmon said last year’s event in the town library was so popular the council had to find a bigger venue this time around.
“It’s terrific to hear that there’s so many grandchildren who will be taking their grandparents out for a delicious high tea and connecting across the generations,” he said.
Attendees are also invited to come dressed as their favourite Alice in Wonderland character.
“I hear there’s a Queen of Hearts, an Alice and also a Cheshire Cat all set to make an appearance and the Lewis Carroll classic certainly provides plenty of scope for dressing up,” Cr Harmon said.
NSW Grandparents Day celebrates the diversity of grandparent relationships across age groups, cultural backgrounds, and geographical locations.
Cr Harmon said the day is about spending time with an older loved one and also acknowledging the important role grandparents and older people play in our society.
“We are certainly very grateful for the funding support council has received from the NSW Government’s Grandparents Day grants program,” he said.
Bookings are essential and will be accepted until midday on Friday, November 2, via the council phone number, 6728 8288.
