“We’ve got a large number of students that are affected by it, and therefore we want to be behind the project” principal Penny Colley said, acknowledging the town’s high domestic violence statistics.
Along with nine other schools in the area, Inverell High has been an enthusiastic participant in the Breaking the Silence training program for staff, and have incorporated teaching on domestic violence into the curriculum.
Ms Colley said the school’s focus was teaching students about respectful relationships.
Inverell High was also well represented at Thursday’s White Ribbon march, where they joined other schools and community members to show that violence will not be tolerated.
“Each year we seem to have more students involved in the march,” Ms Colley said.
“I think that’s an important thing, that it’s not just here at school.”
