Held on Thursday, May 3 the CWA State Conference provides a forum where branches can discuss and set policy directions, receive the various reports of the year’s activities and elect the team who will lead the Association for the next 12 months.

Students Tyler Savill, Chelsie Mitchell and Piper Higgins met with NSW state president Annette Turner after viewing the various cooking, handicraft, international, agricultural and environment exhibits.

The trio also spoke at length with vice-president Anne Keifer, state secretary Ann Adams and CWA chief executive Danica Leys.

An amazing moment for the local ladies was meeting the world president of the Associated Country Women of the World.

Tyler said the experience was an eye-opener for her, realising just how big the CWA was.

“The crafts and displays were fun to look at and it was inspiring meeting and talking to different women within the CWA,” she said.

The junior CWA group have been continually running a breakfast club at Macintyre to raise money and assist their peers.

Tyler said the idea arose in a fundraising meeting for the junior branch.

Now every Friday (week A) between the hours of 8.30am and 9am students can purchase breakfast with a gold coin donation.

“This Friday we had ham and cheese toasted sandwiches and fruit. This is about the sixth time we’ve hosted breakfast club.”

The junior CWA group have assisted at a variety of morning tea events, along with making trauma teddies for local children at the hospital, assisting the Inverell CWA branch and making cookies for soldiers.

”I joined the junior CWA to just get involved and help out.”
