The minor premiership goes on the line this weekend when Exies Diggers take on Coro Cougars at Westend Oval on Saturday afternoon. The two sides are likely to play each other four times in the next five weeks as the one-day final, and first-grade finals series approaches. Exies Diggers missed a chance to move into first place last weekend after they fell to a surprise outright defeat at the hands of Hanwood. Meanwhile, the Cougars are coming into the game off the back of a winning draw which saw them extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points and with the Cougars having the bye in the final round an outright win is the only way they can assure themselves of a first-place finish. The strength of the sides is clear to see with the top four positions in the top scorers for the entire first-grade competition are occupied by two players from Coro in Haydn Pascoe and Dean Bennett while Diggers' Theo Valeri and Trevor Richards are third and fourth. In terms of bowling, Coro's young leg spinner Jack Hutchinson is in good form having picked up five wickets against Leagues last weekend and has risen to second in the wicket-taking two wickets behind teammate Alex Flood who has taken 21 wickets so far this season while Valeri is the leading wicket-taker for Diggers with 18 dismissals.
