An Armidale wig library catering to cancer patients has received a donation of three wigs following a national campaign encouraging women to grow and donate their hair.

The three ‘real’ wigs were donated to The New England Wigs and Headwear library as part of the Beautiful Lengths campaign.
The initiative, run by Look Good Feel Better and Pantene, has seen people across the country donate hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients.
Wig library secretary Jan Day said she had been aware of the campaign but did not know Armidale would be included. Ms Day said although the library had about 130 wigs, these donations were their first real hair wigs.
The library subsidises the cost of the wigs, with cancer patients often referred to the service by oncologists, Ms Day said.
“They can choose a wig and keep them for as long as they need,” she said.
Wigs made from human hair can cost up to $3000, while synthetic wigs cost about $300.
