The fixed Wireless Network is about to come to the outskirts of the town. Work has begun on three sites, one at Gilgai, one on Old Bundarra Road and one along Swanbrook Road. They’ll be operational within a year.
It is good news for anyone living beneath the footprint of those towers because they will have an improved service, but a bit tough if you live in town though.
It really is a ‘good news and bad news’ scenario, as was demonstrated at Wednesday’s council meeting when Cr David Jones updated the meeting on the announcement.
Cr Barry Johnston then asked if that meant the town of Inverell had been pushed further back down the list for the laying of fibre-optic cable. It was a good point.
He went on to put a motion that the Inverell Shire Council take the issue of delay to the government, and said the intent of the motion was to prevent 8000 people in the township of Inverell from being treated like a second class community.
Feelings still run high and the government needs to heed the people on this issue.
